Why is traveling to Cusco with the 33 Buckets Team important to you?

Traveling to Cusco is important to me because it is an opportunity I would never imagine having while growing up, where as a college student I can practice the engineering skills I've been learning while addressing community water access in an international setting. It's amazing because beyond applying what I learn in the classroom towards a need that I'm passionate about, being there also enables so much learning in being present where the change is being made. Going through all stages of the project implementation process on-the-ground makes understanding all outcomes, positive and negative, so much clearer, and I believe it allows me to be at my best as a human-centered engineer.

How has 33 Buckets impacted you personally and professionally?

Working with 33 Buckets had been incredible because I’ve learned a large amount about what makes for a successful project by being involved in the planning and implementation stages. As an intern, I've gained a greater understanding the importance of communication and connection with the communities we work with, how to test different variables and analyze results, how to research previous solutions to find strengths and weaknesses in the context of each community’s situation, and much more.

What is your favorite part about working with 33 Buckets?

From my experience on the ground working on our projects in the Ccorca District of Peru last summer, I observed that on this team, there is an understanding that if we really want to bring sustainable clean water access to each community we work with, local residents need to be involved in the process. I love that this is an essential part of all of the work that we do, and it's a mindset that I think every organization should carry.

What are some of your hobbies, interests, and passions outside 33 Buckets?

Outside of my work with 33 Buckets, some of my favorite pastimes include hiking/backpacking, pickup basketball, and outdoor photography.

My name is Adam and I am a first-year student in Barrett, the Honors College at Arizona State University. I’m from Seattle, WA, and I am pursuing a degree in Chemical Engineering with a certificate in Cross-Sector Leadership.

My interest in empowering communities through human-centered, sustainable design led me to join the 33 Buckets team as a Project Development intern. I believe that communication and collaboration are essential aspects of building solutions that meet the unique needs of varying environments, and I enjoy being around people who keep focus on long-term impact as a measure of success.

Some of my favorite pastimes include hiking/backpacking and outdoor photography. I am also involved in EPICS at ASU, working in the Paradise Valley HS Hydroponics team to develop a green learning farm with the school’s Environmental Alliance club.
